The thermal and mechanical properties of high density polyethylene (HDPE) and fumed nano-silica were studied. The results show that the thermal decomposition property and dimensional stability of the composite filled with modified nano-silica are improved. When the filling mass fraction of nano-silica is 2%, the fracture stress of polyethylene material is significantly increased. Polyvinyl chloride is a universal plastic, and the addition of silica nanoparticles to polyvinyl chloride strengthens and toughens the composite. The nano-silica particles were modified with γ-methylacryloxypropyl trimethoxysilane respectively, and then fused and mixed with PVC to prepare PVC composites. It is found that the modified nano-silica can strengthen and toughen the PVC composite
